Welcome to Gulf Coast Reads 2019!

To say we are excited about Gulf Coast Reads 2019 is an understatement. We are positively geeking at the seams. It's not just because Susan Orlean's The Library Book is the selection and a lot of us are librarians. It's not just because The Library Book is a great read (and it is a great read: part true crime investigation, part behind the scenes documentary, part paean to America's ever-evolving public libraries) and it's not just because we can't wait to discuss the book with engaged and engaging readers from all over the area. It's all of those things and the huge variety of programs inspired by The Library Book that we know you are going to love. Libraries and partner organizations will be hosting events ranging from talks presented by real-life arson investigators, to crafts that repurpose old, unwanted books into new stylish and useful things. A few libraries will draw back the curtain and let you get an insider's look. There will be writing workshops for adults and teens taught by talented authors and poets, genealogy programs, movies and more. Browse the Events Calendar for details! We hope to see you all over southeast Texas this October and until then enjoy this special welcome to Gulf Coast readers from Susan Orlean.
